If an international vacation or studying abroad is on your bucket list for 2026, you might want to double-check your budget.
For the first time in nearly 14 years, the Ministry of External Affairs has officially revised the passport application fees in India.
Don’t panic! While prices have gone up, your dream trip isn’t ruined. Here is a quick, simple breakdown of exactly how much a passport will cost you now.
The New Passport Fee Structure (Old vs. New)
| Passport Type & Service | Old Fee | New Fee (Effective July 1, 2026) |
| 36-Page Passport (Normal) | ₹1,500 | ₹2,500 |
| 36-Page Passport (Tatkal) | ₹3,500 | ₹5,000 |
| 60-Page Passport (Normal) | ₹2,000 | ₹3,500 |
| 60-Page Passport (Tatkal) | ₹4,000 | ₹6,000 |
What if you lose or damage your passport?
Replacing a lost or damaged passport has also become significantly more expensive.
Replacing a 36-page passport now costs ₹5,000 (Normal) or ₹7,500 (Tatkal).
Replacing a 60-page passport now costs ₹6,000 (Normal) or ₹8,500 (Tatkal).
Why the Price Hike?
If you're wondering why the prices jumped, it's mostly because rates haven't touched since 2012.
